Gears of War is a big, delicious pork chop of a game that's grizzled, tender and moist in all the right places. Not only does it look incredible splayed across an HDTV (or a standard CRT, for that matter), but it also satisfies man's primal urge to kill anything that threatens his existence. The abominable monsters that crawl up from the ground will stop at nothing to rip humans to pieces, but they die in spectacular ways, either by gunfire, explosions, or the game's best feature, a chainsaw right down the middle of their slimy-looking torsos. The bloody carnage that results from diving into a firefight, either in single or multiplayer, absolutely needs to be experienced. The campaign is over much too quickly and multiplayer isn't nearly as deep as some other games, but this isn't about playing Gears of War ten, fifteen years down the road. It's all about partaking in this mass, shared experience, one that'll no doubt keep Xbox 360s running for a long time.
