Through three main programs, the Neighborhood Excellence Initiative recognizes, nurtures and rewards organizations, local heroes and student leaders helping to rebuild and revitalize their communities in 38 of the bank's major markets across the country. This is the second year the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has sponsored the program and to date the company has allocated over $30 million to organizations and individuals through NEI.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation employs a strategy referred to as "neighborhood excellence" to define its corporate giving. At its core, "neighborhood excellence" is about identifying critical issues in local communities and directing resources to address those priorities. To accomplish this, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation last year announced an unprecedented, 10-year, $1.5 billion giving goal.
